The Mercedes-Benz New Car Experience: CLA 250 Shooting Brake

As Social Ambassador for Mercedes-Benz Melbourne, I thought it would be appropriate to undertake the experience of what it’s like to purchase a new Mercedes-Benz vehicle. See the video below of how it all went.

With such a huge range of new and demonstrator vehicles, the Melbourne showroom is one of the biggest in the country so it’s hard not become a little overwhelmed when trying to select the right vehicle for your needs. I found the staff to be extremely helpful, genuine and knowledgeable when it came to the cars in both the technical and physical capabilities of the vehicle.

It really did help the choice of vehicle much easier when narrowing down my needs. So what were these needs? A car that was comfortable, had great safety features, had superior performance and that also looked good.

The Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 Sport 4Matic Shooting Brake ticked all of the boxes. With the AMG Sports pack built in, the car was more than comfortable having the Sports seats, compact Sports steering wheel, Sports pedals and 19″ Sports performance wheels topped with a red trim throughout, including underneath the front grill!

The safety features are first class with a number of cameras to assist for parking, including the extra special Park Assist – which basically parks the car for you while you use the break and accelerator to control the speed. There’s also the Blind Spot assist which alerts you of any vehicles in the blind spot area by lighting up a red triangle on your side mirrors. Let’s not forget that is has 4Matic either, which is the intelligent All Wheel Drive (AWD) system allowing the car to switch on AWD at any time it feels the requirement for better control. So there’s no need to press any buttons or adjust any gearboxes, the computer does it all for you! One other benefit of the safety features with Mercedes-Benz is that they are a standard feature. So you don’t pay for additional safety, it’s all included!

The Distronic Plus safety feature is a huge winner in my view. You can actually set the distance in front of you that you want your car to slow down if another car in front gets too close to you. For example, you can set the distance to 50 metres when driving on the highway, so if you’re changing lanes or if a car pulls in front of you and comes within the 50 metre range, your own car will actually slow down to keep the 50 metre distance between itself and the car in front. I also like the Lane Keeping Assist which pulls you back to the road if you start veering off.

Back to the new car delivery experience. I was fortunate enough to have a car straight off the truck, as new as a new could car be (after transport and detailing of course!) I was warmly met by Melbourne’s delivery experience Manager, Andrea who introduced me to the beautiful new silver Shooting Brake wrapped nicely in a red bow.

Andrea walked me around the vehicle advising of its external features and we then spent some time inside the vehicle going through some of its internal features. Some of these features included the COMAND system, allowing you to request features by voice (such as making a call, changing the radio, entering a driving destination etc.). There’s also the Harman Kardon® Logic 7® surround sound system including 12 loudspeakers and Dolby Digital 5.1/DTS which pound out the music, the AMG instrument cluster with RACETIMER, some stylish floor mats with “AMG” lettering as well as the über cool lluminated door sill panels with “AMG” lettering.

I couldn’t wait to get into the car, so the final step was to hop inside and drive it away. I have to say, I was extremely surprised at the high quality performance and responsiveness of the vehicle. It felt like I was behind the wheel of a high-performance C63S AMG and I could hardly notice the extra boot space of the wagon. Overall, it was an experience I certainly won’t forget. Check out my gallery below and be sure to pop into the Mercedes-Benz Melbourne showroom pre-June 30 to order your new vehicle now.

Special thanks to the team at Mercedes-Benz Melbourne for putting together a great experience.
