Melbourne Cup 2016: Street Style

With close to 100,000 race-goers at Flemington, Melbourne Cup Day 2016 did not disappoint.

It was a much more relaxed vibe than Derby Day, however still with a high-fashion, yet fun focus. It’s one of the four days to make your mark on the fashion front, including the famous Fashions on the field event held by Myer, which has a prize pool valued at more than $360,000, including a brand new Lexus RC 200t F Sport valued at up to $83,000.

The Birdcage again hosted local and international celebrities including VRC and Emirates international guest Elsa Pataky; Jennifer Hawkins, Rachael Finch and Taj Burrow at Myer; Olympians Cate and Bronte Campbell, Mack Horton, Tom Burton, Chloe Esposito, Charlotte Caslick, Catherine Skinner, and Paralympian Dylan Alcott at Lavazza; and Maria Menounos at Mumm.

Brighter suit colours, bolder prints and separates looks were the big standout, with the gents in the Birdcage accessorising with pocket squares, lapel pins and the cup day flower – the yellow rose.

My look for the day was supplied by Rhodes & Beckett. I decided to to go with a ‘separates’ look, with a grey windowpane jacket, some navy trousers and a pop of colour with a baby blue shirt, baby blue paisley tie, a sky  blue pocket square and of course the yellow rose to top it off.

A special thanks to the team and Rhodes & Beckett for making the fitting a seamless experience, along with The Defectors for their help in arranging the outfit.
