An Epicurean Experience – The Championships at Royal Randwick

Day 1 of The Championships Racing Carnival kicked off at Royal Randwick on Saturday and was welcomed by some perfect autumn weather and a dazzling crowd.

With the who’s who of Sydney racing and fashion in attendance, the crowd was entertained by some of the best horses in the business, including Captain Duke, Invader, Chautauqua and Ginger Nuts all highly favoured. There were 4 Group 1 races held over the day with a total price money of greater than $10m up for grabs over the day.

The Chairman’s Club was the perfect setting for the launch of the new Epicurean beer range from James Boag. A fine dining experience over looking the winning post, with delicious seafood, steak, duck and dessert on the menu, it was hard to picture being anywhere else!

The Epicurean range is like nothing in the market by Australian brewers. The two flavours: a silky smooth, floral and fruity yet deep flavoured White beer and a sharper Red beer with malted barley and caramel notes, were matched perfectly with white and red meats to respectively bring out their true taste. I was impressed by how easy it was to drink and serving it in a wine glass allowed it to open up so you could appreciate the true craftsmanship of the natural Tasmanian ingredients.

James Boag’s chief brewer Simon Hanley spent almost two years perfecting the recipe working with the likes of celebrity chef Matt Moran to get the right balance of hops and malt to ensure it was a premium product that could be comfortably consumed over a fine dining meal. It certainly didn’t disappoint.

I likened the White beer to a mix of a well made German Weiss beer and a wholesome Belgian ale. I’ll definitely be picking up a slab or two for the fridge given the limited number of batches produced (due to the small amount of hops grown for production).

A big thanks to the team at James Boag (@jamesboagau) for the invite and One Green Bean PR for arranging a totally Epic day!

My look of the day was a plaid grey check jacket worn with black pants, a white shirt, a black tie and a constellation pocket square to go with the Black & White dress code, supplied by the leaders in fine men’s suiting, Rhodes & Beckett (@rhodesbeckett). Full outfit shots are below!
