Derby Day 2017 Style at the Melbourne Cup Carnival

Derby Day saw 87,526 racing fans hit Flemington for the 2017 AAMI Derby. While it was the 3yo colt Ace High that clinched the $1.5 million dollar first place, there was even more action off the track in and around the Birdcage marquees.

Some big celebrity names were in town for the monochrome inspired event, including actress Melissa George and supermodel Robyn Lawley at Kennedy, singer Natalie Imbruglia at Sensis, supermodel Shanina Shaik at G.H.Mumm, model Montana Cox and actress Zoe Ventoura at Lavazza, model Elyse Taylor and racing royalty Kate Waterhouse at Lexus, and footballer Jamie Elliott and model Steph Claire Smith at the new 1 Oliver St marquee.

Black and White was the theme for the day and we saw the men break tradition for the first time in VRC history with socks no longer required under the club’s rules. As a result, there were only a handful of gents pulling off the sockless look, mainly in loafer-style shoes such as the tassel and buckle loafers.

Windowpane jackets, houndstooth prints and the traditional pinstripe suit were all on show with grey a prominent colour in more recent years.

Paul Juchima of No Paparazzi Man was dressed by Calibre (@calibreaustralia) in a separates look that featured black cropped pants, a fitted houndstooth black & white blazer, a knitted black tie, some stylish black Marc Jacobs sunglasses and the stunning Cortez loafers which featured silver hardware and of course – no socks!

A highlight of the day was Natalie Imbruglia singing her global hit Torn in the Sensis Digital marquee.

A big thanks for the day to the VRC, G.H. Mumm, Sensis Digital and Calibre all for looking after Paul and No Paparazzi Man.
